Outreach

Thousand Oaks UMC has a long history of making faith real by showing compassion to our struggling neighbors, near and far. This congregation is dedicated to missions locally, nationally, and globally through acts of service, prayers, and financial gifts. We know this is how Jesus wants us to live... in loving community with one another.

Study Buddies

Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity that can improve the lives of children and families in our community?  At the Thousand Oaks United Methodist Church, we tutor 1st-3rd graders after school every Tuesday and Thursday.  These children are from Glenwood Elementary School, a Title One school in the CVUSD school system.

We are always looking for people who are nurturing and love to help children succeed academically.  We are seek student tutors, 8th grade and up, from all area schools.  Our volunteers include adults from community organizations, from Churches, from Synogogues, etc.  All adults must pass a background check and be trained with our Safe Sanctuary policy.

Dates:             early October to mid-May
Tutor Days:    Tuesdays + Thursdays
Tutor Time:     4-5:15 PM

Other Help:  Our volunteers  1) help walk children safely from school to the Church @ 2:25 PM - 3 PM, 2) help read stories ~3-3:30 PM, or 3) play with & supervise children during recess time ~3:30-4PM.
