LUMC Preschool

The Lewisburg United Methodist Church Preschool
"Nurturing Each Child Through Mind, Body and Spirit"

The mission of The Preschool at LUMC is to provide a child-centered environment by nurturing each child's individuality and creativity through mind, body and spirit. The children have opportunities to grow and explore through music, self-guided and directed play, circle time, chapel, art, and movement. Classes are located in the bright, cheerful children's wing of the church.  Outdoor play takes place in the church's large, fenced-in green space complete with a state of the art playground.

A special guest visits The Preschool each week allowing children to discover and learn about all sorts of different things! Children experience a weekly Spanish lesson! The pastors and church staff lead weekly Chapel time for the children.  The Preschool maintains a high level of communication with the family through newsletters, weekly child notes, daily circle time, and invitations for parents to be involved in the classroom. And, one of the things that makes our preschool most unique is an option for children to continue learning and exploring through the summer months!

The Preschool at LUMC offers two classes:

3-year old classes are held on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:45am-12:15pm. (An early drop off option is offered from 8:15am-8:40am.)

4-year old classes are held on Mondays, Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays from 8:45am-12:15pm. (An early drop off option is offered from 8:15am-8:40am.)

Meet our staff:

Shannon Lehman, Director:

‘Mrs. Shannon’ oversees two of the children’s ministry programs at LUMC, Parent’s Morning Out and The Preschool at LUMC. She has over 15 years of experience working with children, as a preschool teacher, a substitute teacher for Greenbrier County, an elementary education tutor, and as a private sitter in her home. Her degree from WVU is in Journalism (1993), and she is married and has two children.

The team of experienced, creative, and dedicated preschool teachers allows each child to lean at an individualized pace at The Preschool at LUMC. Shannon coordinates the special guest program, allowing for community outreach and involvement. She welcomes open communication and support from parents so that each child’s preschool experience is exceptional!
