Parent's Morning Out

Parent's Morning Out (PMO) is a ministry of Lewisburg United Methodist Church for children ages 1/independently walking to 3 years. PMO strives to provide a safe, nurturing, stimulating environment where children can learn about God's world through play, song, crafts, and group activities.

PMO is open on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday mornings from 8:45am-12:15pm, with an early drop-off option from 8:15am-8:40am. This fully staffed program is offered at reasonable rates, and provides excellent care in a safe environment. A typical morning includes story/Bible time, water table fun, art projects, music, free-play with variety of educational toys, snacks, and outdoor fun in our fenced green space and on our playground. The children learn about the world around them, as well as colors, numbers, letters, etc. We provide a place for children to socialize, make friends, share and learn manners, in order to help them move onto preschool when the time comes.

PMO is offered on a first-come, first-served basis. After filling out the appropriate paperwork to enroll your child, you may either have a standing reservation on one or more days, or call from time to time to make a "drop-in" reservation if a space is available. Prospective participants are welcome to visit with their parents/guardians before enrolling in PMO.

Shannon Lehman, Director:

‘Mrs. Shannon’ oversees two of the children’s ministry programs at LUMC, Parent’s Morning Out and The Preschool at LUMC. She has over 15 years of experience working with children, as a preschool teacher, a substitute teacher for Greenbrier County, an elementary education tutor, and as a private sitter in her home. Her degree from WVU is in Journalism (1993), and she is married and has two children.

The team of experienced, creative, and dedicated teachers at LUMC allows each child to lean at an individualized pace at Parent’s Morning Out. Shannon welcomes new and creative approaches to early learning, and is open to communication and support from parents so that each child’s PMO experience is exceptional!

Tiffany Scitzs, Lead Teacher: Tiffany is a full-time student at West Virginia University pursuing a degree in Child Development and Family Studies, with a preschool certification. She also has an Associate Degree in Elementary Education from New River Community and Technical College.

‘Miss Tiffany’ gained experience working with young children at Old Stone’s Kiddie Condo, and she also has professional experience at Next Day Cleaners (Fairlea, WV). Tiffany enjoys hands-on activities with young children, including arts/crafts, creative play, reading, and learning games. She specializes in creating theme-oriented lessons, incorporating Bible stories into each activity. She lives with her mother and sister in Lewisburg. Tiffany is very goal-oriented, and is happy to be part of the Parent’s Morning Out ministry at LUMC!

Assistant Teachers:

Parent’s Morning Out is staffed with three teachers each day – In addition to our Lead Teacher, two Assistant Teachers are in PMO. Small class size allows each child to develop and learn at their own pace, as well as developing social skills.

Bev Colombo, Associate Pastor, joined LUMC in 2014. She has been a local pastor in the United Methodist Church since 1995, and was also in charge of a preschool for nine years. Bev provides staff support to a variety of children's ministries, and works closely with Shannon Lehman at PMO and preschool.

All of the PMO/preschool staff are trained in CPR and First Aid, and are given a national criminal background check before joining our staff.
