Frequently asked questions about Small Groups

What are small groups?

Small groups at HFUMC are places where you can connect with people who share your interests and/or are dealing with similar life issues. They provide a nurturing community that is essential to your spiritual growth. Although they are all different, they all have five important ingredients: Fellowship, Worship, Study, Accountability, and Outreach.

What kinds of groups are there?

We have all different kinds of groups ranging from men’s, women’s, topical, mom’s, parents, recreational, disciple, mission, worship, book club’s, youth and any other that will help you connect. Be creative.

When and where do they meet?

The groups generally meet weekly in a variety of locations throughout our community, homes and church. There is daytime as well as evening groups.

Is Childcare provided?

Each group will handle this differently depending on its needs. We will help to address this and make sure that this does not keep anyone from his or her Group Life.

Who can participate?

HFUMC small groups are open to everyone in the community. A workplace or neighborhood group is also an easy way to get involved.

How do I sign up?

It is easy to find a group for you. Find a day and time that works for you and your family. Contact the leader to find out more about the group and then go and get involved. You can also contact Rev. Randy Goodman in the Church office 824-8725 x1033 or randy.goodman@hfumc.org.  We want you to know that if a group is not the right fit, find a new one. It is healthy to find different groups at different times in your life depending on what your needs are.

Can I start my own group?

Yes. If God has been tugging at your heart to lead a Group, we will help guide you through the process. Just pull together 3-4 people with similar interests or goals and make the commitment.

In a Group…

  • You will understand the Bible better
  • Close friendships develop
  • You will be able to handle stress and pressure better with the support offered
  • You will develop leadership skills you never knew you had
  • Prayer will become more meaningful to you
  • Worship happens not just on Sunday Mornings, but anytime we focus on God

Consider these verses:

“They broke bread in their homes and ate together with glad and sincere hearts, praising God and enjoying the favor of all the people. And the Lord added to their number daily who were being saved.” -Acts 2:46b-47

“Greet also the church that meets at their house.” -Rom. 16:5

“And when two or three of you are together because of me, you can be sure that I’ll be there.” -Matthew 18:20, The Message
