Scholarships for education

The Association, its churches and former churches, and individuals provide funding for education. Please review the information below to see what may be available.


The BBA's HONG KONG BAPTIST SCHOLARSHIP was established for students in BBA churches to attend a semester at Hong Kong Baptist University. This scholarship has expanded to include a Baptist hospital in Asia. Call BBA for more information: 205.599.3245.

 


The WEST WOODLAWN BAPTIST CHURCH MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND was established by a bequest to The Baptist Foundation of Alabama from the West Woodlawn Baptist Church. This scholarship is to be used for the education of deserving students of the Southern Baptist denomination. In order to qualify for assistance under the provisions of this fund, a student must be a member of a Southern Baptist church with preference as follows:
  1. Former member (or child of former member) of West Woodlawn Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
  2. Membership within Birmingham Baptist Association.
  3. Membership within the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
  4. Applicant must be enrolled in a college or seminary affiliated with the Alabama Baptist State Convention or the Southern Baptist Convention.
  5. Applicant must be enrolled in ministerial education.

The total amount available from the fund per academic year is limited. In view of this fact, only a limited number of students can be assisted. When the number of eligible applications exceeds the amount of available funds, grants are made by the committee administering this fund on the basis of the applicant’s need.
In order to receive consideration for assistance, applications must be completed and submitted each year at www.tbfa.org.

The ERNEST C. AND BONNIE B. GASTON MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP FUND was established by a bequest to The Baptist Foundation of Alabama from the Estate of Mr. and Mrs. Gaston. Mr. and Mrs. Gaston were members of Southside Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama. This scholarship is to be used for the education of deserving students of the Southern Baptist denomination. In order to qualify for assistance under the provisions of this fund, a student must be a member of a Southern Baptist Church with preference as follows:

  1. Membership in Southside Baptist Church, Birmingham, Alabama.
  2. Membership within the Birmingham Baptist Association.
  3. Membership within the Alabama Baptist State Convention.
  4. Applicant must be enrolled at Samford University, Judson College or the University of Mobile.
  5. Applicant must be enrolled as a: (a) ministerial student, (b) missionary, (c) church related vocation, i.e., youth, recreation, education, etc.
