BBA: Our story...

Birmingham Baptist Association is a voluntary cooperative effort of around 140 local churches, creating missions services and opportunities that can go beyond their individual efforts.

The mission of carrying the gospel of Jesus Christ throughout our community is as important today as it was when our local churches first gathered in 1833 as the Canaan Association of United Baptists.

These first churches came together from other associations that did not believe in supporting missionaries. Many of our current churches were started through mission work of BBA.

BBA provides year-round opportunities for church members to bear a Christian witness to their neighbors through block parties and outreach, to those in need through feeding and housing, and to the ends of the earth through missions trips and disaster relief work.

Member churches can receive support through leadership training, legal and financial consultation, our educational resources library, and planning of group events.

Let’s celebrate our history and look to our future with excitement as we watch how God works through our local association of churches.

What can you do to participate in cooperative local missions?

Learn about all of the ministries carried out by the missionaries and volunteers of the Birmingham Baptist Association. Visit our website, bbaonline.org, to find out about your Association’s ministries; sign-up for our quarterly digital newsletter. Feel free to call the BBA office and ask to speak with your missionaries about their work. We would love to have the opportunity to speak to church groups about your BBA and its ministry.

Utilize the services supplied to churches by the Association. Your participation and fellowship in Sunday School and VBS training, lay leaders and ministers conferences, and other gatherings helps build community among the churches and strength in our ministries.

Serve as a volunteer in one of the many missions projects available through the BBA. Visit people staying in our Medical Apartments. Provide food for World Changers coming to town. Renovate a low income home with Metro Changers. Clean up a neighborhood along the coast with the Disaster Relief team. We can help you find that place of service according to your heart and gifts.

Give a donation to the missions work of the Association. Encourage your church to commit three percent of its undesignated receipts to local missions of the Association, or contribute directly to Association work.

Pray for your Birmingham Baptist Association. BBA missionaries and volunteers need your prayers and God’s power to make this ministry an act of service and glorification to Jesus Christ. May God place a strong desire for service in their hearts. Please pray for your fellow church members who serve on BBA committees, setting the course of future ministry in the Association. Ask that God would provide wisdom and guidance to His workers.
