Disaster Relief Update (11/01/12)
If you are a trained disaster relief volunteer and would like to respond to a deployment to the Northeast, please contact Greg Moore, Birmingham Baptist Association Disaster Relief Co-ordinator, at gemoore@bellsouth.net.

Ministering to Victims of Natural Disasters
Beginning with the massive F5 tornado in April 1998, BBA has taken a leadership role in providing relief services to victims of natural disasters. Volunteer crews are used for cleaning up debris, removing fallen trees and limbs, water purification, and running the mobile disaster relief kitchen. Current efforts are coordinated with Emergency Management Agency, Jefferson County Emergency Management Agency, the American Red Cross, and the Inter-faith Disaster Recovery Group, and others.
Bringing help in an emergency
Birmingham Baptist Association is on the cutting edge of disaster relief efforts. We have taken the lead in several local efforts: providing training and certification for volunteers, logistical support, temporary housing, food, clothing, and recovery services.
BBA disaster relief volunteers and units have also served in other cities and states, including New York City, Florida, south Alabama, Mississippi, Louisiana, and Texas.
VOLUNTEER OPPORTUNITIES:
Disaster Relief can provide you with an exciting opportunity to help people immediately after natural disasters such as tornadoes, hurricanes, and windstorms. Our volunteers also assist people with recovery services. These can include cleaning and disinfecting after a flood, sorting through belongings, finding temporary housing, and all the other things that go into "picking up the pieces" and getting back on with their lives.
Disaster Relief can be a rewarding way to minister to people in times of tremendous need. You need to be trained to participate in disaster relief work crews. Please register for the next training class—before the disaster happens!
