Birmingham Baptist Association and Pine Barren Baptist Association recently decided to partner together to meet some of the needs among the churches and the community in Wilcox County, one of the poorest counties in our state. Plans have been made for the first mission project that the two associations will work on together. Dr. Mike McLemore, Rev. John Marks and others on the leadership team met in Camden, AL on Tuesday, July 7th, to identify the first needed project. Three other projects were identified in this meeting and will be addressed later on this year.
The first project will be the exterior painting of the Camden Christian Academy School building (60' by 90'). This school was organized just a few years ago by Christian Way Baptist Church and last year they had 48 students in attendance. For this project, we need at least 20 volunteers. The Pine Barren Association will seek to enlist 10 volunteers and the Birmingham Baptist Association is seeking to enlist 10. The dates of the project are Friday, September 25th-Saturday, September 26th.
The volunteers from Birmingham will spend the night and will be housed in the fellowship hall in the Christian Way Baptist Church right next door to the school.
We anticipate beginning the project on Friday afternoon and concluding it early Saturday afternoon. All meals will be provided. No cost to the volunteers!
If you sleep at the church, you will need to bring your own sheets, blankets, and pillow. If you have a cot or air-mattress you may bring them. The only other things you would need are your toiletry articles and any medications you take along with a change of clothes. We will have a shower trailer on sight. Rest room facilities are located in the fellowship hall area. There is a local hotel nearby if any of the Birmingham volunteers prefer to sleep at the hotel. The room cost would be $53.50 plus tax for one night. You would be responsible for the cost of your room. We will be glad to provide a block of rooms for the team if enough volunteers prefer to stay at the hotel.
We would like to gather for lunch at the Christian Way Baptist Church on Friday, September 25th, at 12:00 p.m. We will enjoy lunch together and then go to work.
Dinner will be provided that evening at the church as well. You are responsible for your transportation to Camden. If you come as a team from your church and want to come together, you can work out those details with your group. Men and women, youth and college age students can be volunteers on this project.
