The event raises money for watershed education initiatives and water monitoring programs of the Narrow River Preservation Association. This year’s event was underwritten by Citizens Bank and supported by Belmont Market, Roch’s Fresh Foods, South County Hospital, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service and 35 other sponsors and donors. The 10K race turns at Pettaquamscutt Park and both races finish at Narragansett Beach, where prizes are awarded to the fastest male and female runners for both events in six age categories. The race also includes a 5K Walk. Justin Bentley of Ashaway, R.I., won the 10K Run with a time of 37:47 and Matthew Thomas of Newport won the 5K Run with a time of 16:46. Laurie Feit Melnick of Narragansett ran the 10K in 43:38, for the fastest time among the women, while Jodi McKenna of Middletown, R.I., won the women’s 5K with a time of 22:59.
