Gail Bemis

Gail Bemis
Children's Director
I was born and raised in Tifton, Georgia. I earned my undergraduate degree in education from the University of Georgia and my Master’s degree from Georgia State University. I started teaching public school in 1979 in Fitzgerald, Georgia. I moved to Covington in 1980 and accepted a job with the Newton County Board of Education. I completed 36 years of teaching before retiring in 2015.

In 1986 I married my husband Jeff and we have two sons, Daniel, 28 and Matthew 25. Right now we have three dogs, two cats, and two chinchillas. I am a true animal lover and have raised my fair share of strays and baby everything.

I love to travel, go on mission trips and meet new people. I like to learn new things, especially anything related to construction or home improvement. Sewing and crafts are a couple of my hobbies. I like to ride my bicycle and I enjoy being outside.

I have always loved working with children, so no one was surprised when I became a teacher. I have always been very passionate about teaching and have loved every minute I’ve spent in front of children. I always wondered when I would know when it was time to retire, but in 2015 God made it crystal clear! I didn’t know exactly what He had in store, but I trusted Him to show me. In 2016 the children’s director position at Zion became available and I know God was calling me to fill it. It was really hard to leave a job that I had loved for so long, but God’s plans are always better than ours. I absolutely LOVE working with the children at Zion!
