Summary

We find all throughout the Old Testament the doctrine of the REMNANT. The Major Prophets and the Minor Prophets both address this doctrine. The word remnant means “something left over, especially the righteous people of God after divine judgment.” It can be defined as “that which is left over and that which remains.” I believe we are that remnant today. Romans 11:5 says, “Even so then, at this present time there is a remnant according to the election of grace.” Whatever the world system throws at us we must not waiver, we must remain strong in our commitment to God! If we are to be that remnant that remains we must display four qualities of commitment. We must be FAITHFUL to Him. God is so faithful to us. As the old hymn says His faithfulness is great. And if we are to remain focused on Him we must be faithful. Psalm 31:23 says that the Lord preserves the faithful. God expects His children to be faithful. In fact He requires it. II Corinthians 4:2 says, “Moreover, it is required in stewards that one be found faithful.” If Jesus were to return today would He find you faithful? As a part of the Remnant we must be FRUITFUL. Colossians chapter one encourages us to fruitful in every good work. We are created and called to be fruitful. The Bible says we will be known by our fruit. As a child of God we must abide in Jesus and bear much fruit. Jeremiah 23:3 exhorts us to be fruitful and increase. The only way that the remnant will increase is if we share with others the Gospel of Jesus Christ. God’s remnant should be Fruitful. As a part of the remnant we will wholeheartedly FOLLOW Him. When Jesus called the disciples He simply said, “Follow Me.” Jesus said if anyone serves Me, let him follow Me. We must abandon totally our own will. Jesus said if any man come after Me let him deny himself, take up his cross, and follow Me. We cannot be concerned with what others do. We must simply put our hands to the plow, not look back, and press on in our desire to follow Him. If we are truly His remnant we will Follow Him. And finally as a part of the Remnant we should be “on FIRE” for Jesus! When is the last time your heart burned within you as you meditated upon the word of God? Do you have a casual relationship with Christ or are you excited about what He is doing in your life? The song says the longer we serve Him the sweeter He grows. Is that true in your life? It is so easy to become complacent. It is so easy to just go through the motions. It is time for us to heed the advice Paul gave to Timothy. “Stir up the gift that is within you.” We need God to stir our hearts and help us recapture the enthusiasm we had when we first came to know Him. Then and only then will we be living a life pleasing to Him as the REMNANT THAT REMAINS!
