Trinity helps out in the Community in many ways, here are a few organizations that we support:
CCHASMChesterfield Colonial Heights Alliance for Social Ministries -- This is a volunteer ogranization that takes requests from the community with emergency needs, such as food, shelter and clothing. Applicants are screened and CCHASM works with Social Services, but their turn-around time is quicker to help those in crises. TUMC has members donate to CCHASM on a regular basis and we have a food drive to fill Thanksgiving baskets so they can distribute these to families that cannot afford this meal. Jeff Davis OutreachIf you've noticed the food baskets in the narthex of the church then you have seen a portion of this project that collects food for the Central Virginia Food Bank. TUMC also has members that donate through direct contributions and there is church money that supplements this also. Once a month, TUMC members bag food for 48 needy families in the Jeff Davis area. Elder Homes Handicap RampsTrinity is blessed to have a group of men that participates weekly in this project. They build handicap ramps at a warehouse and then assemble them on site for people that otherwise would not have access to their homes. The ramps are turned back into Elder Homes when they are no longer needed and given to someone else in need. Food CertificatesMembers of Trinity leave money at the altar rail during communion and once a quarter this is converted to food cards and taken to Social Services and given to our Pastor for emergency’s that may arise in someone's life. Trinity also gives food certificates to CCHASM. CARITASThe homeless spend a week at the time at local churches and receive shelter and food. Our church has been participating in this twice a year, which helps to bring our members together while serving others. CARESCrisis Assistance Response and Emergency Shelter (CARES) =Each year at Christmas, Trinity members shop for the residents of the Petersburg Women's and Children's Shelter. This is an emergency shelter where residents change daily. Trinity spends $125 on each family member staying at the shelter and buys gifts for them. Most residents come to the shelter with just the clothing on their back, so we try to purchase an outfit for each person and toys that they have requested. On Christmas day, Santa pays a visit to pass out gifts and lunch is provided on site by Brocks Restaurant. Winter Coat Driverinity collects gently used coats, hats and gloves annually and anyone in need can take them or give them to someone in need. We leave the Coat Rack out all winter and whoever knows of a use for them can take them. This past year, we only had one coat remaining at the end of the drive. School BackparksTrinity fills 20 backpacks for specific children locally with school supplies. Soles for SoulsNew or gently used shoes are collected and delivered worldwide to victims of natural disasters.
