A Message to Our Listeners, April 2014
For 30 years, you have trusted us to lean upon God and His Word as our foundation for ministry in everything we broadcast, including choosing our programs and ministry associations. Psalm 119:1-4 tells us, “Joyful are people of integrity, who follow the instructions of the Lord. Joyful are those who obey His laws and search for Him with all their hearts. They do not compromise with evil and they walk only in His paths. You have charged us to keep your commandments carefully.”
With this scripture in mind, Faith Radio will no longer be affiliated with Moody Broadcasting on April 1, 2014. This decision was made after the Faith Radio Board of Directors became aware of a recent employee policy change made by the Moody Board of Directors.
In late 2013, Moody’s Board reversed decades of ministry policy by deciding to allow its employees to participate in gambling activities after work hours.
In the November 4, 2013 issue of World Magazine, this change in policy was revealed along with the circumstances surrounding the change. The article also revealed that Moody Board Chairman Jerry Jenkins was participating in poker tournaments in casinos. Jenkins acknowledged that he was a tournament poker player.
The Faith Radio Board then met and voted to write Moody Chairman Jenkins and ask the Moody Board to rescind the policy. Soon after that vote, Faith Radio Board President Mark Williams personally wrote Jenkins and asked Moody to reverse this new policy. Jenkins responded on behalf of the Moody Board and refused Faith Radio’s request.
In its January 2014 Board meeting, the Faith Radio Board of Directors then voted to terminate our relationship with Moody effective April 1, 2014.
If you listen to Faith Radio between 6 in the morning and midnight, you will hear the same Faith Radio… David Jeremiah will begin the morning. Morning Praise, Charles Stanley, Focus on the Family, Chuck Swindoll, Tony Evans and Faith Songs will continue to take you through the morning. Then the same strong afternoon lineup of Kay Arthur, John MacArthur, Jim Burns and Bob Crittenden and the Meeting House will take you home from work. In the evening, Adrian Rogers, Chip Ingram, Russell Dean and Evening Praise and Alistair Begg will be in the exact same time slots.
So… what will change? Between the hours of midnight and 6 in the morning, Faith Radio will replace Moody’s programming with former longtime Moody broadcaster Ken Senes. Faith Radio will also bring back IRN/USA News at 55 minutes after each hour. On Saturday and Sunday afternoons, former WSFA anchor Kim Hendrix will bring you praise and worship. And finally, on Sundays, we will feature new worship services.
Although there will be changes, we believe the changes will only be noticeable because of an improved sound with the age-old message of the Gospel as the cornerstone.
“We believe we were left no choice but to terminate this relationship,” said Faith Radio Board Chairman Mark Williams. “It was an outstanding relationship that lasted 30 years. We are very excited about the future and our future programming.”
Conviction does not come without cost… and the cost of this conversion from Moody will cost Faith Radio approximately $40,000 per year. We would ask that you consider making a special gift to Faith Radio to help cover the cost of this conversion.
